It's the same old song and dance. People desperate for a break, clicking on anything that promises a quick buck. The IRS is even putting out warnings, which, let's be real, is like the fox warning about the henhouse. They're always behind the curve.
And what's this I'm hearing about Trump's "tariff dividend"?
He's saying he'll use tariff revenue to send everyone (except the "high income people," naturally) at least $2000. A Truth Social post, no less. Because that's where serious policy gets hammered out these days.
"A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone," Trump wrote.
Okay, so, let's translate that from Trump-speak to English: "I need to look like I'm doing something for the little guy, and this sounds good on paper."
But here's the thing: Congress has to approve this. And even if they do, is there really enough tariff revenue to go around? The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget is already saying probably not. And the Supreme Court might even throw a wrench in the whole thing by ruling his tariffs are illegal. Plus, even if it did happen, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is saying it would only go to individuals or families making $100,000 or less. Which, okay, fine, but how long before that gets changed?
DOGE Checks? Seriously?
And then there's this whole "DOGE check" thing. The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), supposedly saving trillions and then handing out dividends. Elon Musk is involved, offcourse. It's like a meme come to life.
The idea is that 20% of DOGE's savings – potentially up to $5,000 per tax-paying household – could be paid out as a "DOGE dividend" to U.S. taxpayers, says some investor named James Fishback.
But here's the realitly: DOGE is claiming billions in savings, not trillions. And there's no law in place to actually make these payments happen. So, it's just another pipe dream. A talking point. A distraction.
Honestly, the whole thing feels like a clown show. We're so desperate for a little financial relief that we're willing to believe anything, no matter how ridiculous it sounds. But hey, that's America in 2025, ain't it?

If you get a suspicious message, go directly to IRS.gov in your browser and report it. And for god's sake, don't share your Social Security number, bank logins, or credit card details with anyone who asks for them online. It's not that hard people.
Then again, maybe I'm the crazy one here. Maybe people really do believe this stuff. Maybe they think the government is just waiting to shower them with money. Maybe they haven't learned anything from the last few years of broken promises and empty rhetoric.
